This Comes from a Dream! And it's not actually my dream but a friend of mine's dream.

Neanderthals goes all the way back to 2014 when I was finished with college and experiencing nothing but the real world for the first time.

When I was in a band with 4 other friends, my lead guitarist Tyler Karl (we liked to call him "TK") had a dream we were sitting in a band rehearsal together and we were working on a new song together. He couldn't make out the lyrics but he said it was something about neanderthals.

At the time, I had no idea what a neanderthal was. So I did a little bit of research (Wikipedia, haha) and I discovered that Neanderthals were said to be "prehistoric" cavemen.

TK dreamt the opening riff and played it for me at a very slow tempo. I listened and it pulled me in fairly quickly.

I sat down writing the first verse on my own recollecting to the reality that I'm a bit of a caveman myself. I am very habitual in isolation, retreating to my homestead and shutting myself off from the world.

I finished the question and the following sentence: "Why am I so afraid of the strangers that are just like me? The Man in a cave is the man i never wanted to be."
 

Then I came to a halt. I had no idea where to go from there? So I reached out to Marcus (my rhythm guitarist and roommate at the time). He came up with this beautiful Chorus that took me back to my early pop punk days of middle school.

This whole songwriting process proved the intention of the song. We were never meant to live alone. Isolation is not the true nature of how we were made. We need each other. We have a whole community around us that we can engage with if we simply just step out the door.

I made these shirts to make money. But I also want this song to reach anyone who has also felt like me. Perhaps someone who's also been afraid of the unknown. If you feel isolated or if you have a friend who tends to hide from the rest of the world. Consider getting one of these pieces of merchandise as a reminder. I hope this anthem brings hope to you wherever you are and opens your eyes to the great community around you.
